If after all investigations, you receive a cancer diagnosis, you can rest assured that all Barlow Medical Centre staff, both clinical and non-clinical, will be there to support you.
Three months after your diagnosis you will have a cancer care review with one of our GPs to check on your progress and general wellbeing, after this you will receive an annual review (although your GP may choose to get in contact with you more often than this).
As a South Manchester based practice, we are also lucky to have the world class cancer-care facilities at the Christie Hospital on our doorstep. As a specialist cancer care hospital, their dedicated teams will ensure that you receive the best possible care throughout your treatment.
Obviously, cancer is a disease which mainly affects your physical health, however, it can also have a significant impact on your mental health. Fortunately, organisations such as Macmillan Cancer Support are there to offer support through every stage of your treatment. Macmilan offers a wide range of services, including information, support and advice for patients. They also offer support for those caring for people with cancer.
As well as this, they have a support line (0800 808 00 00) and an online chat service, both of which are open from 8am-8pm.
Remember, your Barlow Medical Centre GP is here to help too. If you have any questions about cancer you would like to discuss or if you are worried about your mental health, please do not hesitate to get in touch and speak to a healthcare professional.
